Settling In at Travis AFB, CA

We left Felton yesterday and made our way to Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA. The motor home had no trouble taking SR-17 up and over the Santa Cruz mountains; my biggest challenge was keeping our speed under 50mph without burning up the brakes or over-rev'ing the engine.

Our only adventure was getting hit by a piece of wood thrown up by a car in front of us. It hit with a mighty LOUD bang and I feared the front bumper was messed up. We were very relieved to discover the damage was very minor - no cracks, just scuffing. Once again, I used toothpaste to rub out the marks. I also checked the underside of the motor home for damage and was glad to find nothing amiss.

Reviews for the Famcamp at Travis AFB are mixed, but we like it here and would be happy to stay again. Aside from some loose dogs (whose owners were undaunted by our suggestion that they leash them, per FamCamp rules), this campground is neat and tidy and the sites are reasonably sized. At $20 per night for full hookups in the Bay area, this FamCamp is a great deal!

I'm happy to be at Travis AFB... I was stationed here from 1986-1989 and have lots of fond memories. We expect to be busy during our stay, with family and friends to visit, and sightseeing around the Bay area.

Stay tuned!
