Yesterday, we took a drive out to Big Basin Redwoods State Park which is about an hour from Felton. Just driving around here is interesting; it's a beautiful area, with majestic Redwoods covering the mountains and streams and rivers winding their way to the Santa Cruz bay. Once we got to Big Basin we poked around a bit and then headed back to Felton. The temperature at Big Basin was in the low 50Fs - a bit too chilly for t-shirts and capris, which is how we were dressed.
After our Big Basin drive, we returned home to the motor home to walk the dogs and change for dinner in San Jose with my friend Barry. We took SR-17 through Scotts Valley to San Jose, which is a lovely drive over the Santa Cruz mountains and into San Jose (the "Capital of Silicon valley"). Because of its narrow shoulders, dense traffic, sharp turns, blind curves, etc., SR-17 has a reputation as one of the most dangerous highways in California. Nevertheless, it is a very pretty drive and our little Honda just whistled along. We'll see how the motor home handles this road in a couple days, when we head north to Travis Air Force Base.
I really enjoyed dinner and catch-up time with Barry. We've known each
other since we were around 11 years old, but it had been 30+ years since
we last saw each other in the flesh. I sincerely hope we see each other
again, much sooner rather than later!
We didn't do much today:
puttered around the campsite, enjoyed a nice lunch at the Cremer House
in Felton, and went over to Santa Cruz and drove around. Nice and quiet
and relaxing.
